Police in Adjumani District are investigating a brutal night attack in which a peasant farmer was hacked to death and his wife severely injured by an unknown assailant in Gorobi Aliwara Village, Mungula Parish, Itirikwa Sub-county.
The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Kayondo Kyakuwa, while his wife, 39-year-old Rehema Rumarahunga, survived the attack with serious injuries.
Both were residents of the same village.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the incident occurred on the night of November 5, 2025, when the assailant broke into the couple’s home and attacked them with a machete.
Kyakuwa died instantly from deep cuts, while his wife managed to flee with their two children to Apaa Trading Centre, where she alerted local authorities.
A joint security team comprising the Uganda Police Force and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel from Zoka responded swiftly to the scene.
Scene of Crime Officers, homicide detectives, and a canine unit conducted investigations and collected evidence.
Rumarahunga was later admitted to Mungula Health Centre III for treatment, while Kyakuwa’s body was taken to the same facility for a post-mortem examination.
